"Harem" (TV Movie) Kadin's (Ava Gardner) Shirt and Headpiece

Description

Shirt and headpiece created by the production for use in "Harem" (TV Movie) (1986) for Ava Gardner's character "Kadin." This is a two-piece lot consisting of a golden shirt and cream-colored headpiece.

Shirt: Shimmering gold shirt with long sleeves and a cropped top. Shirt opens at the front and is closed by wrapping the flaps around the body and tying them at the reverse. Five loops cinch the garment closed at the end of each arm by placing the loops around a ball of knotted material. Bermans and Nathans tag is on the interior reverse near the neckline. Typed text on the tag reads “AVA GARDNER / 03874 - KADIN *5 / ‘D’ARDANELLE’.”

Headpiece: Cream headpiece with golden metal chains draped on the right and left of the headpiece in a half-circle. Each chain terminates with a pearl. Golden embroidered patterns are on the obverse and on top of the headpiece. A large semitransparent veil is attached to the reverse center at bottom. The veil is triangular with a curved bottom. The bottom is lined with embroidery made with reflective green and gold materials in a plant like motif.

Condition

Shirt: Small lines of staining noted on the obverse proper left at center, obverse proper right near arm, and reverse left proper sleeve. Stains are possibly ink. Garment is wrinkled.

Headpiece: The brooch seen on film at the obverse top center is missing. Minor staining along the top brim, Interior lining has become unattached from the proper right side at the bottom. Internal wicker support has creased and buckled at the proper left towards the obverse. Staining around the interior around the bottom edge. Veil is wrinkled.
