"The President's Lady" Rachel Donelson's (Susan Hayward) Bonnet and Photograph

Description

Green bonnet style hat with brown felt rim. Brown and green felt leaves are placed at the top of that hat. Green ribbon tied around top of hat with a ribbon tied at the back. Interior of hat is lined with white a lace doily.  Tag sewn into interior has text written in black in that reads “1-39-2-4616 S. Hayward A689”.

Accompanied by a black and white costume test photograph of Hayward wearing the complete costume, including the bonnet.

Originally acquired from Sotheby's Beverly Hills Entertainment Memorabilia sale on May 21, 1997.  These items were part of Lot 377.

Condition

Loss of shape throughout. Pinholes in green ribbon.
