"Unknown Treasure" Susan Hayward Hat (Possibly from "Untamed")

Description

Black straw hat featuring a black felt band adorned with an intricate silver floral motif. Delicately placed white feathers add elegance and height to the overall silhouette. The interior bears a sewn-in tag with black text that reads: “1-39-4851 S. Hayward Location / A-726-89”

Previously listed by Sotheby’s as a costume piece from the film Untamed (1955), though it should be noted that the decorative elements seen here differ from those in screen stills. It is possible the hat underwent alterations after production, which was not uncommon for wardrobe items reused in later projects or sold after filming.

Originally acquired from Sotheby's Beverly Hills Entertainment Memorabilia sale on May 21, 1997.  This item was part of Lot 377.

Feathers have aged. Felt has pulled away in some areas.
