"Billy Rose's Jumbo" Anthony 'Pop' Wonder's (Jimmy Durante) Hat

Description

Reprising his role from the popular Broadway musical, Jimmy Durante plays circus owner Pop Wonder in “Billy Rose’s Jumbo” (1962). This novelty stovepipe hat was worn by Durante in the finale of the movie, when the cast is singing “Sawdust and Spangles and Dreams.” The light-red canvas hat has a wide orange hat band with two yellow ribbons, along with a metal stovepipe protruding from the top. The stovepipe cap is not present. "DURANTE” is written in black on the interior.

Condition

The red of the hat is likely faded (appears more of an orange-red today). The yellow ribbons are both slightly soiled. Some staining throughout the orange felt band (darker orange in color). Several small dark spots of soiling in the red areas as well.
