"Freedom, Equality, Sauerkraut (Liberté, égalité, choucroute)" Marat's (Jean Yanne) Costume

Description

Created by the production for use in the French film "Freedom, Equality, Sauerkraut (Liberté, égalité, choucroute)" (1985) for Jean Yanne's character Marat. This is a four-piece ensemble consisting of a tailcoat, waistcoat, pants, and scarf.

Tailcoat: Blue linen tailcoat with gray satin lining. Front of tailcoat has gradual taper. Side panels have flap pockets at waist. Three buttons on each center edge of panel covered in same blue linen cloth. High tailored collar. Long sleeves with French cuffs and blue linen buttons. Black button on inside of proper left panel. At the top of each tail on back is a blue linen covered button with a single knife pleat below each button.

Waistcoat: White and navy striped waistcoat with gray satin lining inside. Side panels have broad welt side pockets. Buttons on proper right panel are covered with same white and navy striped fabric. High tailored collar. Back of waistcoat is gray satin. Bottom of back has adjustment flaps with gray string.

Pants: Light gray pants with flat front and side button closures at the waist. Pants have small pocket at front proper left side and drawstrings at bottom of pant legs and back of waist. Buttons can be found throughout interior waist band along with tag that reads "YANNE / Carad Arte Firenze / GIUSEPPE PERUZZI."

Scarf: Light gray satin scarf with tapered ends.

Condition

Tailcoat: Light beige stain on back of proper left shoulder. Linen has small snags throughout.

Waistcoat: Hole above proper left pocket. Light yellow staining on inside of collar and top edge in center.

Pants: Pinholes throughout waist from how item was previously displayed. Creases throughout material. Minor snags in material reverse proper right leg. Slight discoloring along top edge of waistband.

Scarf: Scarf is wrinkled throughout from improper storage. Small pin holes in fabric on ends. Light yellow staining in center where fabric is wrinkled.
