"Independence Day" Ground Crew Flight Suit
"Independence Day" Ground Crew Flight Suit
Description
Created for the production of "Independence Day" (1996), this U.S. Marine Corps-style ground crew flight suit is an impressive piece of science fiction film memorabilia inspired by the military personnel featured throughout the blockbuster alien invasion epic. Constructed of navy blue fabric, the flight suit features a front closure with seven hidden gold-tone buttons, a traditional collar, and plain double breast pockets, capturing the authentic military appearance seen throughout the production.
The suit is distinguished by its original military-style insignia and embroidered patches. A patch on the proper right sleeve reads "F/A-18 HORNET HANDLER" and features a Hornet graphic, while a "BLACK KNIGHTS VMFA-314" squadron patch with a medieval helmet emblem is positioned above the proper right breast pocket. Completing the look is a removable black leather name patch attached with Velcro above the proper left breast pocket, reading "F/A-18 – Dana L. Stephens – SSGT USMC" alongside the United States Marine Corps emblem. These detailed production-applied elements contribute to the flight suit's realistic military presentation and make it an outstanding display piece for collectors of military-themed film costumes and 1990s science fiction memorabilia.
The flight suit exhibits expected production and age-related wear, including minor signs of use consistent with age and handling. It remains in very good display condition and represents an excellent opportunity to own an original production-created costume from one of the most iconic science fiction films of the 1990s.
