"Northern Exposure" (TV Series) Maurice J. Minnifield's (Barry Corbin) Prop Rifle
Description
Own a distinctive piece of television history with Maurice J. Minnifield’s prop sporting rifle from the hit TV series Northern Exposure. This detailed production-made rifle was used as part of the display in Maurice’s study, adding authentic frontier charm to the eccentric Alaskan setting featured throughout the series.
The prop features a wooden long barrel with a faux metal finish, achieved by painting the wooden barrel a dark gray to resemble steel. The trigger guard is made of plastic and painted to simulate metal, while a black plastic hammer is positioned above the trigger guard on the proper left side. The rifle was designed without a functional trigger, as is typical for non-firing display props used on set.
A brown rubber butt plate decorates the stock, featuring triangular and parallelogram engravings measuring approximately 3.75 inches high. The back of the butt plate includes a dotted pattern with small raised text reading “SAKO / RIIHIMAKI / SUOMI FINLAND.” The bottom of the pistol grip features a plastic ivory-colored diamond inset in darker stained wood, separated by a thin ivory-colored plastic line. Both sides of the pistol grip and handguard display elegant diamond engravings that extend roughly seven inches, with additional detailing separating the light and dark wood sections. The front and rear faux sight pieces are crafted from wood and painted to complete the realistic appearance of a functional rifle.
Used on-screen as part of Maurice’s Alaskan homestead décor, this prop exemplifies the high level of craftsmanship and visual authenticity that made Northern Exposure a beloved and award-winning series. It remains a standout collectible for fans of the show and collectors of television memorabilia alike.
