"The Sword (Ming jian)" Li Mak-Yin's (Adam Cheng) Sword and Sheath

Description

Sword and sheath acquired by the production for use in the Hong Kong film "The Sword (Ming jian)" (1980) for Adam Cheng's character "Li Mak-Yin." 

Sword: Double-edged sword with long metal blade, metal guard with decorative scroll designs, handle wrapped in a gold-painted canvas, and metal pommel with an X symbol with a line through the center on both sides, and a pointed tip with hole at center.

Sheath: Metal sheath for a long sword, with a brownish red color and a meander pattern etched along edges on both sides and a sun design etched at center on both sides.

Condition

Sword: Some mild staining throughout blade, most notably at tip (corrosion may be beginning here). Scuff marks on blade. Gold-painted canvas on handle is losing some of its paint (white canvas material visible). White discoloration and corrosion on both guard and pommel.

Sheath: Surface is very dull, with discoloration throughout. White areas may be signs of corrosion. One shiny gold-toned area along edge suggests the entire thing may once have been shiny. Abraded along edges.
