"Zenobia" Dr. Tibbet's (Oliver Hardy) Vest

Crafted by the legendary Western Costume Co., the vest features a cross-hatch and floral brocade pattern with a rich gold tone, instantly evoking the elegance and humor of Hardy’s iconic character.

The obverse center closure has five gold-toned buttons, and the vest includes welt pockets at the waist. Inside, two Western Costume Co. stamps and a sewn-in label confirm its provenance: “Western Costume Co. / HOLLYWOOD 2D / NO. 23190 / NAME Dbl. Babe [illegible] / CHEST 54 SLEEVE / WAIST INSEAM.” Photographs of Hardy wearing the vest in Zenobia match the overall design, though it is possible the piece was altered and worn by another actor in a subsequent production, as the bias label does not perfectly match the original film. Notably, post-production changes include a patch of a different fabric on the proper left obverse of the vest.
